Kelty Redwing 50 Internal Frame Pack Review

Can't say enough about the positive attributes of this KELTY Redwing 50 M/L backpack that works great on my long upper bodied 6'4', 180 lb frame. Great midweight pack, especially for the price. If you like the classic American book backpacks we've used, this is the same basic design but larger in size, added bells & whistles, and most importantly, a sturdy, padded hip belt to distribute load to your hips and OFF your shoulders. I carry an 8 lb laptop, 10 lb textbook, 10 lb notebook, plus supplies to school everyday--which has created problems in my upper back. Walking 1.5 miles to school each day, this pack has eliminated those problems, making it feel like I am carrying 1/3 of that load and allowing airflow across my back in the heat.

It is bigger than most school backpacks, if you do use it for school, but ease of use and a pain free back = priceless.

On weekend getaways, this is converted (emptied) rapidly to my weekend bag for hitting the road or dayhikes.

No complaints about this pack but one: If you bend, break, or misplace the aluminum stay that provides support, KELTY will not get you a new one. You can't even pay for one?!? I hope that changes as the popularity of this backpack makes it a classic. (To be fair: KELTY just repaired and resewed my 20 year old duffel bag to my satisfaction, so they are still providing great service of yesteryear!)

Camelbak M.U.L.E. 100 oz Hydration Pack Review

I bought this pack specifically for my Honeymoon at Disneyworld, but have owned other camelbak products that have served me well on the trail.

I bought the mule because its size and fluid capacity are perfect for spending a day wandering around a Disney theme park with my bride. It holds my camera in a lined pocket, my sunglasses and video camera in the front pocket, snacks, sunblock, cell phone, souvioneers, etc in the main compartment, and a stuffed mickey mouse fits nicely in the area meant for a bike helmet.

As for the trail, I always carry my camelbak because the quality is great and its very comfortable to wear. The materials used really stand up to the wear and tear of hiking, biking, and the occasional tumble.

The Mule is a great size for a few hours of outdoor activity, its not too large, but its large enough to hold the essentials (snacks, map, first aid kit, camera, light jacket, etc).

The Mule is a comfortable, durable, and worth every penny.

The North Face Surge Daypack Review

So i bought this backpack to use at college this fall. I looked online at many different backpacks and brands and decided on this the Surge. It easily fits my Dell Studio XPS 16 in the laptop compartment. There is another large pocket which can hold several books at a time. There is also a rather large pocket that is divided which is good for holding small electronics and pens and pencils and other smaller items. I have carried it all over campus with books and other stuff and it doesn't bother my back at all. I also have used it in the Adirondacks. I climbed up 4 of the high peaks and had no problems whatsoever. I also used it to day hike Mt. Washington. I only really have two complaints about it. One is that there is no designated hole for the hose of a hydration bladder, not a big deal. The other is that the water bottle holders do not hold the wide-mouth 32 oz Nalgene bottles. I use it almost everyday and it seems very durable and reliable and I would highly recommend it!
